Curraha continued their Division 1B League campaign as they welcomed Seneschalstown to Joe McDermott Park on Saturday evening.
The first half was a very cagey affair, with both sets of umpires having an easy time of it as they only had to reach for the white flag on 3 occasions. The referee was seeing more action than his officials however, as he issued a total of 4 yellow cards in the opening 30 minutes, with the visitors accounting for 3 of them. It was the visitors who led by a point at the break. Curraha' solitary score came late in the half. Neil Shortall claimed an excellent Luke McCarthy kick-out and found Ronan Flynn. He laid off to Andrew Coyle, who scored with a lovely strike from the right. Curraha left a number of scoring chances behind, as they registered a very high number of wides to undo some excellent approach play throughout the half.
The hosts wastefulness in front of the posts was to come back to haunt them in the second half as Seneschalstown stepped up a gear, and they registered the opening score of the half with an excellent goal. They added the next 2 points as well to open a 6 point gap. Curraha then had their best spell of the game in 3rd quarter, with Ronan Flynn registering a point from play following a fine catch and pass from Conor Joyce. Flynn followed up almost immediately with a free following a late tackle on Brian Joyce. However, it was a shame that the ref was so quick to go to his whistle as the Ha were bearing down on goal and indeed the ball ended up in the net, but the whistle had already gone. Curraha turned possession over from the kick-out and broke up field again, with Niall Murphy coming down the right hand side and firing over a fine effort. The visitors managed to stem the tide, and regain control of the game. They managed the next 4 points, and then registered their 2nd goal in the 24th minute to extinguish any hope of a comeback for the 'Ha. Andrew Coyle got his 2nd point of the day in the closing stages, but it wasn't to be for Curraha and the visitors won out by a 9 point margin.
